 Environmental labelling (Eco-labelling) is a voluntary method of environmental performance certification for products or services. Eco-labelling is understood as the labels to inform consumers that a product is eco-friendly better than other products in the same category. Three types of voluntary labels are used in conformity to The International Organization for Standardization(ISO). Type I is a multiple-criteria based, third party program that awards a license authorizing the use of indicating overall environmental preferability of a product. In this category, Eco-mark is known in Japan. Type II is informative environmental self-declaration claims. Type III provides the quantified environmental data of a product, under pre-set categories of parameters established by a qualified third party based on life cycle assessment. Now that many private companies have used eco-labelling for their products and services. They believed that these have attracted consumers looking for ways to reduce environmental impacts through their purchasing choices.
 However various eco-labeling in market has led consumer in some confusion. Consumer canʼt distinguish each eco-labelling easily due to too many labelling. Especially, type II eco-labelling has been regarded as unproven or irrelevant claims by consumers because of no intervention by a third party. Thereby, most consumers donʼt pay attention to the eco-labelling when they purchase products. Eco-labelling should change to consumer-friendly. Type II labelling should be rearranged their eco-labelling system in industrial associations and try to reduce number of eco-labelling based on an environmental impact category.
